W5 Solutions has been granted an order from the Swedish Defense Material Administration (FMV) to deliver helicopter Ground Power Units.
W5 Solutions has been given a contract for the delivery of Ground Power Units (GPU) to meet the needs of the Swedish Armed Forces in electric power supply to its Sikorsky Black Hawk and NH Industries NH90 helicopters. The GPU output rating is 50kVA, and the system is adapted to the specific needs of the helicopter.
In addition to meeting demanding requirements on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), power quality and operational environment, the GPU is also entirely portable. Since the GPU is delivered on a trailer, it can easily be towed, and the design ensures effortless loading onto a transport aircraft, such as the Lockheed C-130. With its built-in diesel engine, the GPU is also completely self-supplying.

The agreement between W5 and FMV is a long-term overall commitment that covers both services and products – development, manufacturing, verification, and delivery. Safety analyses, technical documentation and project management are also included in the commitment.
The transaction was completed as of November 2020.
